Improve Your Shoulder Pain and Performance With These Exercises!

These are some of my favorite exercises that I utilize as part of my shoulder care series. Now by no means is this all encompassing, for instance this program has some major changes for my throwing athletes (that will be a future post!) vs Crossfit and lifting community. 

Turkish Roll is one of my favorite exercises as it really challenges shoulder stability and mobility. In particular it helps individuals to learn how to move their body around their shoulder instead of the other way around. I recommend starting with a light weight and working to be perpendicular with the floor. 

 

Serratus plank: The shoulder blade often doesn’t get the same attention as the shoulder when in reality they work together. Serratus plank is a great foundational movement to help build scapular strength, and it’s very easy to progress this exercise. Below I have included a few progressions to try out!

Overhead carry (kettlebell). Overhead carry itself is a great exercise; however making a minor adjustment takes it to the next level. I recommend dropping the weight and carrying it ball side up. The ball being up forces your shoulder to stabilize in a 360 degree arc making it ideal for overhead stability.
